A large-scale programme for the resettlement of refugees from Bhutan has begun in the seven camps located in Jhapa and Morang Districts of southern Nepal. UNHCR, together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and resettlement countries, will provide information on an ongoing basis to the refugees about durable solutions in the camps through mass meetings, radio messages and discussion groups. It is critical that refugees are able to gather as much information as possible about their durable solutions options in order to make an informed decision regarding their future.
Resettlement is never the only solution that UNHCR and the international community advocate for. Any one of the three solutions will be offered to refugees when it is feasible and practical to do so. The international community and UNHCR continue to advocate for the right to return to Bhutan. |
